Urge Obama to act now on cancer-causing chemicals
In May, the President’s Cancer Panel strongly urged Mr. Obama to use the power of his office to “remove carcinogens and other toxins from our food, water and air.”
Don’t let President Obama ignore this urgent wake up call from scientists. Sign our petition urging the White House to look carefully at the Panel’s recommendations, and develop a strong action plan for true cancer prevention.
We are writing to urge you to act swiftly on the recommendations of the President’s Cancer Panel, as outlined in their recent report "Reducing Environmental Cancer Risk: What We Can Do Now".
After reviewing the latest scientific evidence on environmental causes of cancer, including testimony from 45 cancer experts, the Panel concluded that human cancers could be significantly reduced by eliminating exposures to environmental carcinogens.
The Panel also found that the number of human cancers caused by exposure to chemical contaminants has been grossly underestimated, and that our current system for regulating chemicals is failing to adequately protect the public from cancer-causing chemicals.
Please act on the Panel’s recommendations to identify and remove cancer-causing chemicals from our food, water and air. Use the power of your office to ensure strong reform of our chemical regulatory systems, and direct the National Cancer Program to invest in true cancer prevention efforts.
Millions of Americans are touched by cancer every year. Your leadership is desperately needed, and will save lives.
