Stop Siddiqui in the Senate

Islam Siddiqui – a former pesticide lobbyist and vice president for CropLife America – is still on track to be confirmed as the U.S. Trade Office’s Chief Ag Negotiator. He will likely pass through committee this week to a full Senate vote. After that, his confirmation could happen within hours.

We have to act this week to derail Siddiqui’s nomination. If one person calls their senator for every ten that signed the petition, we will have succeeded in making the “revolving door” between industry and government much squeakier than it’s been in a long time. Can you be the one person who picks up the phone?

Call your Senator today and urge him/her to take a stand against Siddiqui and “agribusiness as usual.”

DIRECTIONS:  After you enter you zip code, your Senator’s information -- with telephone number -- will appear to the right. When you hit "submit" at the bottom it will also send emails to your respective Senators.

Below is a sample call script:

Hello! My name is [your name] and I am from [city]. I am a constituent of Senator [your Senator].

I am calling to ask Senator [your Senator] to oppose the appointment of Islam Siddiqui to the position of Chief Agriculture Negotiator at the US Trade Representative’s Office.

Siddiqui is a perfect example of the “revolving door” between Big Ag and government. He is too beholden to corporate interests to serve the best interests of people, farmers, workers and the environment.

Does Senator [your Senator] support Siddiqui’s nominations?  [If yes:] Will s/he consider withdrawing her/his support?  [If no] Would s/he be willing to make a statement reflecting our concerns on the Senate floor?

When would be a good time for me to follow up with you regarding the Senator’s position on Siddiqui?  [Set a specific date and make sure you actually follow up.]
Thank you for taking the time to talk with me today.
