Unless the Senate acts to fix the situation this week, 2013 is on track to see the worst setbacks for sustainable agriculture in years. Opportunities for farmers to implement smart conservation practices will be severely limited.
But that can change. Will you take a few minutes today and call your Senators? Show your support for programs that invest in healthy farms, food and people.
Calling your Senators is easy, and it is one of the best ways to hold them accountable. Here’s the information you need to make a call:
Tell the person who answers that you’d like to share a personal message with your legislator, such as this:
“Hello, my name is _____. I’m a constituent and a voter (and tell ‘em if you’re a farmer!). I’m calling about the Continuing Resolution. Please tell the Senator to fix the Conservation Stewardship Program so USDA can hold a farmer sign-up this year. Also tell the Senator to support mandatory funding in the bill for the programs that were stranded in the Farm Bill extension. These programs are important to farmers, support the future of healthy farms and food, and they must be funded.”
