Taxpayer dollars should support farm stewardship

The Food and Farm Bill is heading to the Senate floor for debate this week. And while the bill makes historic gains in some areas of farm program payments, as it stands it fails to link taxpayer dollars to good stewardship practices.

Call your Senators today and ask them to support Senator Cardin's amendment attaching important conservation requirements to crop insurance payments. This is common sense reform that everyone should be able to get behind.

The message is simple:

"I am a constituent and I’m calling to urge Senator ____ to support real reform in the 2012 Farm Bill. Please support Senator Cardin's amendment on conservation compliance. This commonsense amendment rewards good stewardship by reattaching conservation requirements to crop insurance, as it was until 1996. Conservation practices reduce risk by protecting soil and water resources, and making farms more resilient. Our taxpayer dollars should support good farm stewardship."
