Label genetically engineered food. We have a right to know!
As the election draws closer, the world's largest pesticide and GE seed corporations — the "Big 6" — are focused on California and working hard to defeat Prop 37, the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. This ballot initiative would simply require foods containing genetically engineered (GE) ingredients to be labeled. And if passed, Prop 37 could have national implications for food rules across the country.
Up to 80% of the non-organic food on grocery store shelves contains GE ingredients, despite the fact that we have no long-term safety studies. And the simple fact is, GE crops require more pesticide use — not less as promised. So it’s no surprise that the pesticide industry fiercely opposes GE labeling. They want to keep us in the dark and protect the markets that GE crops open up to their products. But we have a right to know.
Send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to help ensure that voices calling for GE labeling and our right to know cut through the noise.
